Mass outages and disruptions of Starlink begin in Russia

On the evening of 4 February, Starlink satellite communications reportedly partially stopped working on both sides of the front.

This was reported by Russian Z-channels and so-called “war correspondents.”

At the same time, Ukrainian military sources noted selective disruptions.

“Starlinks went down across the front. For the enemy too,” wrote Volodymyr Romanov, the author of one of the channels.

Several military-themed Telegram channels also reported problems with Starlink terminals and widespread outages.

Authors of Z-channels emphasized that there is “simply no alternative” to Starlink satellite internet in Russian military units, and that “much, including combat command, was tied to it.” They suggested the cause might be a technical failure.

From the Ukrainian side, the military noted that Starlink terminals are “generally operational,” although “some users are experiencing disruptions.”

Sources in the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed that terminals already submitted for verification to be added to Ukraine’s “white list” are currently not working.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov called on commanders at all levels of the Defense Forces to organize verification of Starlink terminals, emphasizing the need to submit terminal numbers through the DELTA system to the “white list.”
