Russia predicts at least a month and a half of talks with Ukraine on peace

Russia predicts at least a month and a half of talks with Ukraine on peace

Work on a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia would take at least a month and a half, even under favourable negotiating conditions.

This was reported by an informed Russian source following meetings in Abu Dhabi, according to Russian media.

“This is a very multi-layered and phased process. Concluding everything within a month — no, that’s unlikely. Even with a constructive attitude from all sides and a willingness to immediately resolve fundamental differences, it would take no less than a month and a half,” the source said.

The source also added that Ukraine insists on security guarantees for Odesa, particularly assurances that Russia will not attempt to seize the city. For Kyiv, this remains a critically important element of any peace negotiations.

At the same time, Russia is only pretending to engage in negotiations, while Ukraine is already prepared for a substantive dialogue.

The European Union has stated that Ukraine alone must decide what concessions it is willing to make in negotiations with the United States and Russia. Any compromises, however, are possible only in exchange for real — not formal — security guarantees.
