A well-known military officer suspected of torturing Ukrainian citizens has died under mysterious circumstances in Russia

In the Russian region of Yakutia, soldier Alexei Petrov, whose call sign was “Bear,” has died. He had been awarded the title of “Hero of Russia” for his participation in military operations against Ukraine. Officially, his death is attributed to a sudden deterioration in his health; however, unofficial sources suggest that his death was the result of violence.

This is reported by Russian Telegram channels.

Russian serviceman Alexei Petrov, who participated in combat operations against Ukraine as part of the “Storm-2” unit of the 39th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, has died in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). According to Ukrainian sources, this very unit is suspected of involvement in the torture of Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilians.

The region’s head, Aisen Nikolayev, announced Petrov’s death, calling it a “great loss” and noting the soldier’s “courage.” According to the official version, the man fell ill during a trip to visit an acquaintance.

At the same time, a number of unofficial sources claim that death was caused by asphyxiation: Petrov was allegedly strangled during a conflict at a gathering where alcohol was being consumed. This version has not yet been officially confirmed, but it raises doubts about the actual circumstances of the incident.

It is known that in July of last year, Petrov was awarded the title of “Hero of Russia.” According to Russian officials, he participated in assault operations during which he sustained severe injuries and lost both legs. Despite this, they claim, he continued his “active service” and supported other soldiers.

Ukraine has repeatedly stated that certain units of the Russian army were involved in war crimes, including the torture of prisoners. In this context, Petrov’s name was mentioned among the military personnel who may have been involved in such actions.

At present, the circumstances of his death remain unclear.

In Yakutia, payments to war veterans have been temporarily suspended due to a lack of funds.

As a reminder, another incident involving a serviceman of the so-called “Special Military Operation” occurred in the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation. A local resident who had returned from the war attacked his neighbor with an axe.

In Yakutia, a so-called “hero” of the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine took revenge on the recipient of a grant from Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin for winning the “Best Teacher of Russia” competition.
