Russia is deploying paratroopers from the Kursk region to the Kherson region: why?

The Russian command is moving several airborne units from the Kursk region to the Dnipro River area to reinforce its forces near Skadovsk and Ozerne. The aim of these actions is to intensify assault operations in the island zone of the Dnipro River. 

Vladislav Voloshin, spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, noted in a comment to Ukrinform that this does not currently constitute a large-scale redeployment of the aggressor’s forces. The redeployment of paratroopers is primarily intended to increase the intensity of combat operations in specific sectors of the front. Ukrainian military personnel continue to monitor the movements of the occupiers in the southern regions.

The increase in the number of Russian assault groups indicates the enemy’s desire to establish control over the Dnipro islands. The situation in the Dnipro region remains tense, but the Defense Forces are monitoring the movements of Russian units. The defenders’ next steps will depend on the dynamics of enemy activity in the area of responsibility.

Russian troops continue their offensive in the Pokrovsk direction, attempting to capture key settlements, but the Defense Forces are holding back the pressure and destroying enemy equipment.

Total combat losses of Russian troops since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, as of April 24, 2026, amount to approximately 1,323,460 personnel. Over the past 24 hours alone, another 910 soldiers were lost.

Ukrainian drones destroyed three Russian anti-aircraft missile systems in a single night in the occupied territories of Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. The “Tor-M2” and “Osa” systems were hit and were unable to effectively repel the attack. The operation demonstrated that Russian air defense systems do not always manage to respond even at the moment their own missiles are launched.
