Explosions were heard in Cheboksary, Russia, on the afternoon of May 29. A missile alert was issued in the Chuvash Republic, and operations at the city’s airport were temporarily suspended.

This was reported by local Telegram channels.

According to eyewitnesses, sirens sounded not only in Cheboksary but also in other towns in the region. The danger warning was broadcast on radio and television.

Photos and videos showing smoke after the explosions also appeared online. Loud noises were reported in at least three districts of the city.

At the same time, Cheboksary Mayor Stanislav Trofimov stated that the information about the explosions is allegedly untrue.

Amid reports of the incident at the Cheboksary airport, flights were canceled and passengers were asked to leave the building.

Cheboksary is located about a thousand kilometers from the border with Ukraine.

The city is home to the VNIIR-Progress enterprise, which is part of the ABS Electro production association. The plant specializes in the production of navigation receivers and antennas for satellite systems, including Kometa modules used in Russian missiles and drones.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces struck oil refineries, air defense systems, and a number of Russian military facilities.

The strikes on oil refineries in Russia caused a gasoline shortage, particularly of AI-95.
