The threat from Belarus persists due to pressure from Russia — State Border Service
Russia is stepping up pressure on Belarus, demanding that Minsk play a more active role in the war against Ukraine. As a result, the risk of new provocations or even another invasion from the north has not completely disappeared.
This was reported by Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
According to him, there is currently no buildup of Belarusian troops directly near the Ukrainian border. Since 2022, Belarus has maintained a limited number of units in this area, which are periodically rotated, but their numbers have not changed significantly.
At the same time, as Demchenko noted, Ukrainian intelligence is recording increased pressure from Russia on the Belarusian leadership with the aim of more deeply involving the country in the war against Ukraine.
The State Border Service spokesperson emphasized that there are currently no Russian strike groups on Belarusian territory. However, Moscow is capable of rapidly deploying troops and utilizing the military infrastructure being developed by the Belarusian side if necessary.
According to Demchenko, given these circumstances, Ukraine continues to closely monitor the situation on its northern border and is prepared for the possibility of new provocations by the enemy. The source of this information is the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
Belarushas restricted access to forests near the border with Ukraine.
As a reminder, Belarus has launched exercises to practice the use of nuclear weapons.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia is attempting to draw Belarus deeper into the war against Ukraine and is considering new scenarios for aggression from its territory.
