Ukrainian forces withdraw near Pokrovsk: Air Assault troops explain the decision

Defense Forces units carried out an organized withdrawal from some positions in the areas of Lysivka and Sukhy Yar, near Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad in Donetsk region.

The Air Assault Forces explained that this was a planned maneuver, not an uncontrolled retreat. Personnel were moved to pre-prepared, more advantageous lines that allow for a more effective defense.

According to the 7th Air Assault Corps, the main goal of this decision was to preserve the lives of servicemen and prevent their potential encirclement. The maneuver also aimed to improve logistics support for units, simplify ammunition delivery, and facilitate evacuation of the wounded.

Command emphasizes that aligning the front line reduced the risk of a “pocket” forming for Ukrainian forces in this area.

The 7th Corps noted that information about the operation was deliberately not released immediately to avoid compromising the mission and preventing the enemy from adjusting their actions. Only after the regrouping and stabilization of the situation did the command provide explanations regarding the withdrawal from certain positions.

The situation near Myrnohrad remains tense, with Russian forces actively using guided bombs against the city and surrounding areas. In just one week, over 20 bombs were dropped on Myrnohrad, increasing damage to infrastructure and complicating conditions for defenders.

Amid continuous strikes, Ukrainian units must simultaneously hold lines, evacuate civilians, and deal with the aftermath of attacks.
