Crimean authorities decide to restrict mobile internet until the end of the war

The Kremlin-appointed occupation administration in Crimea announced a long-term restriction on mobile internet across the peninsula.

The occupiers stated that these restrictions will remain in effect until the end of the full-scale war against Ukraine.

They claimed that residents “simply need to accept it” and reorganize their lives to a “different mode of operation,” effectively acknowledging that a return to normal mobile connectivity is not planned in the foreseeable future.

Aksyonov argues that these measures are allegedly necessary to “ensure the security of Crimea” and that “there was no other way to act.” According to him, the internet can be used “for good purposes as well as bad,” and therefore the authorities have the right to sharply limit access to it.

In this way, the occupation administration is attempting to justify large-scale communication restrictions on security grounds, without providing specific evidence or open risk assessments.

Earlier, the Crimean mobile operator Volna informed subscribers that the full functionality of popular messengers WhatsApp and Telegram would be blocked. The company cited a decision by the federal Russian communications regulator Roskomnadzor, which allegedly requires such measures under “security restrictions.”

Users report serious problems with connectivity, difficulties in sending messages, and the inability to fully use mobile internet in daily life.
Also, Trump embarrassed himself by claiming that Crimea is surrounded by oceans.
