Russian Army losses in the war against Ukraine exceed 1.21 million personnel — General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The total combat losses of Russian forces since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine — from February 24, 2022, to January 4, 2026 — amount to approximately 1,211,530 personnel, including about 900 over the past day.
This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook.
According to the General Staff, the Russian army has also lost 11,499 tanks (+2), 23,855 armored combat vehicles (+0), 35,756 artillery systems (+12), 1,590 multiple launch rocket systems (+0), and 1,268 air defense systems (+1).
In addition, 434 aircraft (+0), 347 helicopters (+0), 99,860 operational and tactical-level UAVs (+278), and 4,137 cruise missiles (+0) have been destroyed. Russian naval losses include 28 ships and boats (+0), as well as two submarines (+0).
Ukrainian defenders have also destroyed 72,776 units of automotive equipment and fuel tankers (+88), along with 4,035 units of special equipment (+0).
As of 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026, 104 combat engagements had taken place along the entire front line, while Russian invaders continued intensive shelling of border regions and positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 46 attacks by Russian occupiers and eliminated more than 200 enemy troops during January 2. Fighting continues in the areas of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad, where Ukrainian units control key positions and destroy enemy equipment.
The situation for occupation force units operating directly within the city of Kupiansk as of early January 2026 is critical.
