Sochi under Ukrainian drone attacks for over 28 hours
The city of Sochi has been continuously targeted by Ukrainian drones for more than a day. The attacks focused on the TurkStream and Blue Stream gas pipelines, which supply gas to Turkey and European countries. One man was injured, and several houses caught fire after drone debris fell. Sochi Mayor Andriy Proshunin called this the longest attack on the city since the start of the war.
Universities moved students to remote learning, and children were advised not to attend schools or kindergartens. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, one drone was shot down near the Russkaya station on the TurkStream, while 14 drones struck the Beregovaya station on the Blue Stream near Tuapse. “These are attempts to disrupt gas supplies to Europe,” the ministry stated.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov described the attacks as “very alarming information” and “irresponsible actions,” emphasizing the risk to energy security. Due to the threat of new strikes, flights from Moscow to Sochi were canceled or diverted. Passengers waited up to eight hours for boarding, and around 400 people were accommodated in city hotels.
Social media reports indicate damage to residential buildings in Sochi and Adler, where residents had to be evacuated. The mayor confirmed one injury from falling drone debris. This attack serves as another warning that infrastructure targets in Russia remain at risk, and gas supplies to Europe and Turkey may face serious threats.
