Major fire at power supply facility in Moscow region leaves 100,000 consumers without electricity

A large-scale fire broke out at the Donino power supply centre in the Ramenskoye urban district of Moscow region, leaving around 100,000 consumers without electricity. The authorities claim the cause was a burnt busbar at the substation, although the incident occurred at the same time as an attack by Ukrainian drones, according to Astra.

According to the local administration, residents of Ramenskoye, as well as the neighbouring cities of Zhukovsky and Lytkarino, were left without power. Specialists from Rosseti Moscow Region have begun switching consumers to backup power sources where technically possible and have taken damaged sections out of service for repairs, with electricity expected to be restored within several hours.

The official cause of the fire at the energy facility has not yet been established. However, the outage coincided with a mass UAV attack on the Moscow region. Earlier, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin confirmed that air defence systems were active in response to drone activity, amid Russia’s ongoing full-scale war against Ukraine.

Due to the drone threat, Vnukovo and Domodedovo airports implemented the “Carpet” emergency plan, resulting in dozens of flight delays and aircraft being diverted to alternate airfields.

Local residents have shared videos of the substation fire on social media and reported water supply disruptions, as pumping stations were shut down due to the power outage. This marks another instance of energy infrastructure disruption in Russia in late 2025, occurring alongside active hostilities and regular strikes on military and logistical targets of the aggressor state. Russian official bodies have traditionally refrained from directly linking fires at electrical substations to drone strikes or falling debris.

Earlier reports stated that residents of Ramenskoye were left without electricity and complained of internet disruptions. The district administration said an emergency power outage had occurred and promised that electricity would be restored within two hours.
