Zelensky emphasized that Russia struck Kyiv while sanctions were being discussed
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Russian attack on Kyiv took place while he was discussing sanctions against Russia with U.S. lawmakers. According to the president, the main targets were civilian infrastructure, residential buildings, a maternity hospital, energy facilities, and logistics.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the Russians launched a ballistic missile strike on Kyiv just as the Lindsey Graham bill and the need to strengthen sanctions were being discussed at a meeting with members of Congress.
“Russia will not end this war without pressure. While people were sleeping, there were flashes in the sky from the explosions. Once again, the main targets of their strike were Kyiv and civilian infrastructure—residential buildings, a maternity hospital, the energy sector, and logistics. Two deaths have already been reported. My condolences to all the families and loved ones. There are also injured people. Emergency services are on the scene—people are trapped in one of the buildings. An air threat remains in some regions of the country,” Zelenskyy wrote.
Zelenskyy discussed sanctions with Brian Fitzpatrick, Michael Quigley, Marcy Kaptur, Jared Golden, Joe Wilson, and Gregory Mix.
“Every such attack occurs because the pressure on the aggressor has not yet become total, and Russia believes it can continue to rely on ballistic terror. Right now, the United States has the opportunity to respond forcefully. We need ballistic missile interceptors to protect lives. We need to enforce sanctions against Russia and those who help it profit. I thank both parties for their willingness to help protect lives,” Zelenskyy concluded.
Russia launched a missile attack on Kyiv on the night of September 24, leaving two dead and eight injured.
Earlier, in Sumy, water supply was restricted following an airstrike due to power outages.
We should add that drones attacked the temporarily occupied Donetsk and Luhansk regions overnight.
As a reminder, Russia struck Kharkiv on the night of September 23, leaving one person dead.
On the morning of September 23, an air raid alert was declared in Kyiv and several regions due to the threat of UAVs.
