Zelenskyy reveals enormous air defence costs during Russia’s night attack
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that air defence missiles worth around €80 million were used to repel Russia’s combined attack on the night of 20 January.
He made the statement while answering journalists’ questions, RBC-Ukraine reports.
The attack was one of the largest to date: the enemy launched hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles of various types, directing the main strike at the Kyiv region.
Ukrainian air defence forces managed to destroy or neutralise 342 targets, though the consequences were felt across the country.
Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine had received new air defence missile packages from its partners the day before, which helped to contain the assault.
“Today’s Russian attack cost us — just in terms of missiles — around €80 million,” the head of state told journalists.
He emphasised that Ukraine has to fight every day for each missile and for funding, as the priority is saving lives.
As for the reaction of US President Donald Trump to the shelling, Zelenskyy refrained from making any predictions.
“It’s difficult for me to comment on the reaction right now. We know the general position — that America and President Trump want to end this war,” he said, adding that there had been no communication with Trump regarding the attack so far.
As a reminder, air defence forces shot down more than 340 aerial targets.
Zelenskyy also outlined the main problem in repelling Russian strikes.
