Zelensky expects €40–45 billion from frozen Russian assets

Zelensky expects €40–45 billion from frozen Russian assets

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine expects to receive around €40–45 billion in 2026 from frozen assets of the Russian Federation.
As reported by Censor.NET, the president made this remark while speaking with journalists in the Netherlands.

According to Zelensky, this sum is part of a total of approximately €210 billion that international partners could allocate to support Ukraine. He emphasized that discussions around the mechanisms for using frozen Russian assets are still ongoing, as not all countries agree on the proposed formats.

Zelensky noted that even with various legal and financial instruments, every decision regarding these funds represents a binding step for donor countries. Despite this, Ukraine insists that Russian money should form the basis for compensation for the damage caused by the war.

The president highlighted that the recorded destruction in Ukraine is three times higher than the €210 billion figure currently considered by partners. Even full use of frozen Russian assets would not cover the entire cost of destroyed infrastructure, housing, and energy facilities. Nevertheless, Zelensky considers it fair that “the Russians pay for the destruction they caused.”

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has also called on the EU to use frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine.
