Zelensky and Meloni coordinate on peace and energy issues
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni held a phone conversation focused on the peaceful resolution of the war and the support of Ukraine’s energy system.
The Ukrainian president shared this information on his social media.
The contact took place on Sunday, December 7, ahead of Zelensky’s series of trips to London, Brussels, and Rome. These visits aim to strengthen coordination with key European leaders on the next steps in the peace process.
During the conversation, Meloni reaffirmed Italy’s steadfast solidarity with Ukraine following the latest Russian strikes on civilian infrastructure. She emphasized that Rome is ready to continue providing practical assistance to support Ukraine’s energy system.
Italy is focusing on delivering real technical support to help mitigate the impact of Russian attacks on the population.
The leaders also discussed Ukraine’s energy security amid ongoing attacks. Meloni noted that Italy will deliver a shipment of generators to Ukraine in the coming weeks. These supplies are intended to strengthen the resilience of critical infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted power supply in the most vulnerable regions.
Zelensky, in turn, informed Meloni about the results of recent contacts with the U.S. side, outlining both the available support prospects and the key challenges Ukraine faces on the international track.
The president also discussed coordinating positions between Kyiv, Washington, and European capitals regarding the formula for a just and lasting peace.
Recall that Zelensky recently stated that, in the context of negotiations with the U.S., the possibility of achieving peace appears more real than ever.
