Zelenskyy called on the U.S. President to increase pressure on Russia in case of failure of peace talks
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that if Moscow refuses to comply with the conditions for ending the war agreed upon by Kyiv, the United States, and European countries, a logical step would be a sharp increase in pressure on Russia.
He said this while speaking with journalists after talks in Berlin on December 15, where further steps toward ending the Russian-Ukrainian war were discussed.
According to the head of state, the Kremlin’s position will demonstrate whether Vladimir Putin is ready for a real end to hostilities or will continue attempting to derail all diplomatic initiatives.
Zelenskyy was asked what could happen in a situation where Ukraine, together with the United States and European partners, develops joint proposals, but Russia rejects them.
The president compared the possible development of events to “turbulence,” noting that certain shocks would be inevitable, but they would not compare to the scale of a full-scale war.
At the same time, he emphasized that the real danger would arise if Putin deliberately destroys all diplomatic opportunities and disregards the efforts of Ukraine, Europe, and the United States.
In such a case, according to Zelenskyy, the “President of the United States” should move to more decisive actions against Russia. He considers it logical for Washington to strengthen sanctions pressure on the Kremlin and expand military support for Ukraine.
The Ukrainian leader stressed that this is not only about weapons, but also about the political will of the West to demonstrate that the sabotage of peace agreements will have serious consequences for Russia.
It is recalled that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously stated that Ukraine has no intention of abandoning Donbas and will not recognize it as Russian territory under any circumstances.
