Zelenskyy imposed sanctions on 121 Russian commanders and Russian Orthodox Church propagandists

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed decrees implementing the decisions of the National Security and Defense Council regarding new sanctions against Russian military commanders and religious figures who support Russia’s aggression.

This was reported by the Office of the President.

The first sanctions list includes 121 Russian occupiers involved in missile strikes on Ukrainian territory. Specifically, these include commanders of the Russian Aerospace Forces’ long-range aviation, Navy units, and missile and artillery units of the ground forces.

The statement notes that these units carried out massive attacks on Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure, including strikes on the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital, residential buildings in Ternopil, a shopping center in Kremenchuk, and energy facilities in various regions of Ukraine.

“This is one of the first instances where our intelligence services have managed to clearly identify over 100 specific individuals who directly issue orders and launch missiles against Ukraine. They are common terrorists who should be sanctioned in all jurisdictions,” stated Vladislav Vlasyuk, the President’s Advisor and Commissioner for Sanctions Policy.

Separately, sanctions have been imposed against nine representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church and affiliated organizations who, according to the Office of the President, publicly justify Russia’s aggression, incite violence, and use religion as a propaganda tool.

Ukraine plans to share information on both sanction packages with international partners to synchronize restrictions in their jurisdictions.

As a reminder, issues related to Ukraine, in particular the intensification of sanctions pressure on Russia, will be discussed at a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council. The meeting will take place next week in Luxembourg.

Ukraine and a number of countries have supported the new EU sanctions against Russia.
