Zhorin stated that a military de-occupation of Transnistria is possible

Maxim Zhorin, deputy commander of the Third Army Corps, stated that, in his opinion, Ukraine is capable of conducting a military operation to de-occupy Transnistria. He believes that Russia currently lacks sufficient resources to rapidly deploy forces to the region, which, he said, creates favorable conditions for such a scenario.

He made this statement on his Telegram channel.

Zhorin called the current situation the “ideal time” for Moldova to regain control over unrecognized Transnistria. In his view, Russia has maintained its own enclave in the region for years, but with the onset of full-scale war, its capabilities have been significantly reduced.

“Moldova should have resolved the Transnistria issue long ago. And with the start of a full-scale war, the ideal time for this has arrived,” the officer wrote.

He emphasized that Moscow currently lacks the sufficient forces and resources to deploy full-fledged units to Transnistria. Zhorin also suggested that Ukraine could support a potential operation to de-occupy the region.

“For many years now, they’ve had some obscure piece of the Russian Federation right next door, and they’ve done nothing about it. It’s clear that Russia currently lacks the resources to send full-fledged units there for defense. Now is the time to reclaim the occupied territories. And I think we would find a way to support such an operation,” Zhorin wrote.

According to the deputy commander of the Third Army Corps, Ukraine is “fully capable of de-occupying Transnistria by military means in the short term.”
