The Ukrainian Armed Forces eliminated a former Zorya defender who betrayed Ukraine on the front lines
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have killed former professional soccer player Oleksandr Polovkov, who betrayed his homeland and joined the ranks of the Russian invaders.
News of the 46-year-old collaborator’s death emerged on April 20, 2026, from posts in local public groups in the temporarily occupied Luhansk region.
Oleksandr Polovkov was well known in the soccer world of eastern Ukraine. A product of Alchevsk’s “Stal,” he rose from the reserves to the first team, making his debut in the Premier League during the 2005–06 season.
Later, the defender played for Luhansk’s “Zorya” and also gained international experience in the Uzbekistan Championship, where he played for the clubs “Navbahor” and “Andijan.”
After the occupation of part of the Luhansk region in 2014, Polovkov chose to collaborate with the enemy. He remained in occupied Dovzhansk (formerly Sverdlovsk) and began playing for local fake teams.
The traitor became one of the “faces” of the so-called “LNR national team,” participating in propaganda tournaments organized by the occupation administration.
With the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, the former athlete was likely caught up in a wave of forced mobilization or voluntarily took up arms.
The exact location and circumstances of his death have not yet been disclosed, though representatives of the occupying authorities have confirmed his death.
