The Trump administration has lifted the ban on TikTok for government officials – Bloomberg
The White House Office of Management and Budget has officially rescinded the 2023 directive that prohibited the installation and use of the TikTok app on U.S. government officials’ work devices due to national security risks. The decision was made based on a July opinion from the Department of Justice, which concluded that the social media platform no longer falls under the restrictions of the 2022 law.
Washington’s change in position became possible after the Chinese company ByteDance signed an agreement to transfer TikTok’s U.S. operations to a joint venture with U.S. investors. Although the initial deadline for the sale was set for January 2025, Donald Trump granted an extension to complete the deal immediately after taking office, which allowed the ownership issue to be resolved.
