Peshawar Bar Association demands apology from Maryam Nawaz
In Peshawar, Pakistan, the Peshawar High Court Bar Association condemned Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s statement about “threats from neighbouring provinces” and demanded that she offer an unconditional public apology to the residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
As Dawn reports, the association’s executive council adopted the decision at a meeting chaired by its president, Aminur Rehman Yousafzai. The meeting was conducted by the organisation’s general secretary, Ashfaq Ahmad Daudzai.
The association’s position
The executive council described Maryam Nawaz’s remarks about Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as irresponsible and biased. In its view, the statement is insulting to the province’s residents, contributes to the spread of hatred and provokes national sentiments.

The association said that such remarks are harmful at a time when national unity and interprovincial harmony are important. It also stressed that the residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have made the greatest sacrifices in the fight against terrorism: thousands of civilians and security personnel have died for Pakistan’s peace and stability.
Demands addressed to Punjab’s leader
The council stated that terrorism is not a problem of one province but concerns the entire country. The association demanded that Maryam Nawaz withdraw her statement, publicly and unconditionally apologise to the residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including the Pashtun people, and acknowledge the sacrifices made by the province’s population, police and security forces in the fight against terrorism.
The association added that political leaders should unite the country’s provinces and peoples rather than create discord. The statement called for strengthening respect, harmony and brotherhood among all provinces and peoples of Pakistan.
