Belgium has categorically refused to transfer Russia's frozen assets to Ukraine – Euractiv
Belgian Defense Minister Theo Franken stated that Brussels categorically rejects the possibility of transferring frozen Russian assets totaling approximately 200 billion euros to Ukraine and does not intend to change its position.
The statement comes amid an initiative by Sweden, Poland, the Netherlands, and Spain, which have called on the European Commission to find new ways to use these funds to assist Ukraine. The official emphasized that this issue is not up for discussion and that the Belgian prime minister will stand his ground.
Franken also criticized the Baltic states for actively pressing for the creation of a reparations loan for Ukraine, warning them against attempts to corner Brussels and reminding them of Belgium’s support for Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.
