Boeing: Ghana’s national carrier could return within 18 months — MyJoyOnline

US aircraft manufacturer Boeing said that Ghana’s national carrier could return to flying in approximately 18 months. Company representatives gave this assessment during talks with Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama in New York, United States, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, MyJoyOnline reports.

Conditions for launch

Boeing expressed readiness to work closely with the Ghanaian government to restore the national carrier. The company noted that the 18-month target could be achievable provided that the necessary structures and mechanisms are established to implement the project.

Mahama said that Ghana seeks not merely to purchase aircraft for a new national carrier. According to him, the country wants a strategic partnership with Boeing to develop the aviation ecosystem, create skilled jobs, transfer technology, and strengthen the industrial base.

The president also said that Ghana aims to become an aviation and logistics hub for West Africa. The talks focused on a partnership that could support the national carrier while also developing the sector’s infrastructure, professional skills, and technical capabilities.

Technical center and training

Among the proposals is the creation of a regional aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul center in Ghana. Such a center could serve airlines in West Africa and other countries on the continent.

The parties also discussed aviation training, skills development, technology transfer, and the creation of high-value jobs for Ghanaian youth. The proposed partnership is part of the Reset Ghana program aimed at attracting strategic international investment and developing the country as a regional center for trade, aviation, and logistics.
