British Radio Station Mistakenly Announced the Death of King Charles III – BBC
The British media regulator Ofcom has acknowledged that Radio Caroline violated broadcasting rules by accidentally airing an obituary for King Charles III.
The incident occurred on May 19 during technical work in the studio, when an employee, out of curiosity, opened pre-prepared files intended for the monarch’s death, after which he fled the room in a panic.
The announcement of the king’s death was broadcast three times, after which the national anthem began playing. A retraction and apology were issued only half an hour later. The regulator classified this as a serious violation of news accuracy requirements. The radio station reported that the employee responsible received a reprimand, and the prepared obituaries were removed from quick access.
