The Czech Republic will continue its ammunition initiative for Ukraine

The Czech Republic has stated that it will continue to coordinate the initiative to supply ammunition to Ukraine, which has become one of the key mechanisms for providing military aid. Prague also confirmed its readiness to participate in strengthening NATO’s eastern flank and to develop defense cooperation with allies.

The Czech Republic does not plan to scale back its participation in the international initiative to supply ammunition to Ukraine and will continue to be one of the key coordinators of this mechanism, which allows for the rapid provision of necessary ammunition to the Ukrainian army amid a full-scale war.

This was stated by Czech Defense Minister Jaromír Zuna after a meeting with his German counterpart Boris Pistorius in Berlin, emphasizing that support for Ukraine remains one of the country’s defense policy priorities. “We are ready to continue the ammunition initiative,” Zuna said. In addition, the head of the Czech Ministry of Defense confirmed that Prague will continue to participate in strengthening NATO’s eastern flank, where Czech troops are stationed in Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, and Poland, emphasizing the importance of the Alliance’s collective security amid growing threats in the region.

At the same time, he did not directly comment on reports of a possible reduction in the size of the Czech military contingent abroad from 2,000 to 1,600 personnel, but assured that this would not affect the effectiveness of the country’s participation in NATO missions or the level of its engagement.

Zuna also named Germany as one of the Czech Republic’s key strategic partners in the defense sector, emphasizing that cooperation between the countries is practical and long-term, particularly in the context of military modernization and shared security challenges. “Germany is an important supplier of defense equipment to the Czech Republic,” he noted, adding that cooperation with Berlin remains stable and is expanding.

Separately, the minister recalled plans to modernize the Czech armed forces and emphasized that the country is interested in deepening defense cooperation within NATO, particularly in joint projects and exercises.

He also expressed satisfaction that Germany will be a special partner at this year’s NATO Days in Ostrava, which, he said, is another step toward strengthening the defense partnership between the two countries.

The Czech Republic is considering the sale of Explosia, a state-owned manufacturer of explosives and ammunition, with the proceeds potentially directed toward defense investments.
