US Democrats urge Trump to engage China in AI dialogue — Anadolu Agency

In the United States, 29 House Democrats urged President Donald Trump’s administration to begin a sustained and substantive dialogue with China on security risks associated with artificial intelligence. This was reported by Anadolu Agency.

Letter to the State Department and Treasury

The lawmakers sent a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. They urged the administration to initiate such discussions during bilateral contacts between the United States and China scheduled for next week.

The letter’s authors said that reducing artificial intelligence risks in the United States also requires addressing international risks. They proposed paying particular attention to China, which, they said, has the capacity to develop its own advanced AI models.

Shared risks for the two countries

The Democrats noted that the United States and China are developing the world’s most capable artificial intelligence systems. In their view, dialogue between the two countries should be focused and practical: reducing the risks of miscalculation and addressing dangers that neither side can handle alone.

US President Donald Trump is expected to host Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House on September 24.
