US State Department calls IRGC letter to Americans a smokescreen — The National

The US Department of State called the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ open letter to the American public a smokescreen aimed at concealing the consequences of military action against Tehran, The National reports.

State Department reaction

A State Department spokesperson said that the IRGC’s attempts to mislead Americans do not change the facts about the Iranian regime’s activities inside and outside the country. According to the spokesperson, Iran continues to choose terrorism over prosperity, and ordinary Iranians pay the price for it.

The US side also claims that its operations inflicted significant damage on Iran’s defense-industrial base, naval forces and air force. The State Department said that Iranian missiles were substantially damaged.

Content of the letter and reward

On the eve, the IRGC published a 26-page open letter to the “honorable people” of the United States. It urged Americans to reject President Donald Trump’s policies ahead of the midterm elections in November. The authors also called the conflict a catastrophic failure for Washington and declared Iran’s “decisive victory.”

IRGC spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi told journalists that he does not expect the letter to affect the behavior of the US administration, but believes its messages may be heard by voters.

Meanwhile, the State Department’s Rewards for Justice program offered up to $15 million for information that would help disrupt the financial network of the IRGC Aerospace Force. The United States says this network supports IRGC operations, weapons development and procurement. The program is also seeking financial information about Brigadier General Abdollah Mehrabi, whom the US side links to a company that manufactures engines for Iranian Shahed drones.
