Dubai Sends 74 Tonnes of Aid to Nepal After Floods
The Dubai Humanitarian hub in the UAE has sent 74 tonnes of essential supplies to Kathmandu for residents of Nepal affected by deadly floods. The cargo was delivered by air to Nepal’s capital on Tuesday aboard an Emirates SkyCargo Boeing 777-F freighter, The National reports.
Contents of the shipment
The aid includes tents and materials for setting up temporary shelter, medicines, hygiene kits and winter kits. It was assembled from stocks pre-positioned in Dubai by the United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF, the United Nations World Food Programme’s Humanitarian Response Depot, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
The shipment was sent on the instructions of UAE Vice President and Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid. Dubai Humanitarian Chairman Mohammed Al Shaibani said the cargo was part of a joint international humanitarian response and was intended to support the recovery of affected communities in Nepal.

Consequences of the disaster
According to the publication, a glacier collapse and landslide on August 26 caused flash floods that brought widespread destruction to the border area between Nepal and China’s Tibet region. The death toll from the disaster has exceeded 13,000, while thousands more people are considered missing.
Earlier, the UAE had already delivered 184 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Nepal as part of a $10 million emergency response package announced on the instructions of President Sheikh Mohammed. An Emirati search-and-rescue team, which arrived in Nepal on Friday, has begun work on the ground.
