Dubai completes Oud Metha road expansion — The National
Dubai, UAE, has completed a project to expand Oud Metha Road and Al Asayel Street, intended to reduce congestion on one of the emirate’s busiest transport links. The work included the construction of four key interchanges, four bridges, two tunnels and an additional 14 kilometres of roads.
Road capacity
According to The National, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority said the project is expected to increase the capacity of Oud Metha Road from 10,400 to 15,600 vehicles per hour. It is also expected to reduce the average travel time from 20 minutes to five minutes.
The Oud Metha and Al Asayel project is part of the broader Sheikh Rashid Corridor development programme. Authorities estimate that by 2030, the upgraded infrastructure will serve about 420,000 residents of the area.

Areas along the route
Dubai Roads and Transport Authority Director General Mattar Al Tayer previously said that the project is intended to strengthen the city’s road network. According to him, it will support service, residential and development areas, including Zabeel, Al Jaddaf, Oud Metha and Umm Hurair, as well as Latifa Hospital and Al Wasl Club.
Separately, Dubai authorities approved the construction of an 80-kilometre motorway that is intended to connect the emirate with Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. The first section, costing 3.5 billion dirhams, is planned to run from Al Shunuf Road to Dubai–Al Ain Road. It will have 12 traffic lanes, be able to handle up to 24,000 vehicles per hour in both directions and is expected to reduce travel time by up to 60%. The second phase will extend from Dubai–Al Ain Road to Al Faya Road in Abu Dhabi.
