Yemen Regroups Forces After Losing Positions on the Western Coast

In Yemen, the government and the Presidential Leadership Council are trying to regroup forces after government troops lost positions and areas on the western coast amid a large-scale Houthi escalation. The authorities are also seeking to contain the humanitarian consequences of the new population displacement and maintain the functioning of state institutions, Asharq Al-Awsat reports.

Statement by the Governor of Marib

Member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Marib Sultan al-Arada described the events on the western coast as painful and regrettable. At the same time, he said that wars are accompanied by advances and retreats, and that these events will not divert government forces from their main goal.

Al-Arada stated that the units that withdrew from the coast are regrouping and will return to combat operations “one way or another.” Some servicemen have arrived in Marib, where local authorities prepared a camp for them and took measures to meet their needs.

Government Decisions in Aden

Prime Minister Shaya al-Zindani said during a government meeting in the temporary capital of Aden that the difficult events of recent days should not be considered the end of the confrontation. He stressed that the course of fighting is determined not by the outcome of a single day or a change in positions, but by the state’s ability to reorganize efforts, mobilize resources, support forces, and preserve institutional cohesion.

The Cabinet of Ministers reviewed a report by the defense minister on the situation on various fronts, the level of operational readiness, and the needs of the troops. The government emphasized the need to strengthen the capabilities of the armed and security forces to counter the escalation and regain the initiative. Al-Arada also stated that the ultimate goal of combat operations in Marib and other areas remains the liberation of the capital, Sanaa, from the Houthis.
