The EU has approved the allocation of 3.2 billion euros for the purchase of Patriot missiles for Ukraine
European Union member states have approved the purchase of U.S.-made interceptor missiles for Ukraine’s Patriot air defense systems, totaling 3.2 billion euros. The funds will be allocated as part of an EU macro-financial loan, and the final technical details of the decision are expected to be finalized by Friday, September 11.
To carry out the deal, the European Union will apply a special exemption from the general rules governing the use of the loan, which require that weapons be purchased exclusively from European or Ukrainian manufacturers. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen noted that, together with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, she welcomes this decision, as it will help better protect Ukrainian airspace from Russia’s indiscriminate attacks. The new tranche will supplement the 8.4 billion euros already disbursed as part of the program to support Ukraine.

The United Kingdom is allocating 100 million pounds for a winter aid package to support Ukraine’s air defense. It will include hard-to-find interceptor missiles for Patriot systems, which are intended to help protect the lives of Ukrainians during the winter.
Ukraine is continuing negotiations with the United States regarding licenses to manufacture missiles and components for the Patriot air defense systems. U.S. President Donald Trump has already responded positively to Ukraine’s proposal, but a final decision on the licenses has not yet been made.
