Eurovision 2027 will be held in Burgas, Bulgaria
The European Broadcasting Union and Bulgarian National Television have selected the city that will host the 71st Eurovision Song Contest. In May 2027, Europe’s premier music show will take place in Burgas on the Black Sea coast.
Initially, two Bulgarian cities—Burgas and Sofia—were in the running to host the contest.
Bulgaria earned the right to host the contest for the first time following singer DARA’s historic victory with the song “Bangaranga.” For the country, this will be its first time hosting the contest since winning its first gold. All three contest shows will take place at Arena Burgas—Bulgaria’s newest sports and entertainment complex, which opened in 2023. The first semifinal will take place on Tuesday, May 11; the second on Thursday, May 13; and the Grand Final is scheduled for Saturday, May 15, 2027.
Burgas beat out three competitors: Sofia, Varna, and Plovdiv. Burgas and the Bulgarian capital both reached the final selection stage, but the organizers ultimately chose the Black Sea city. Among the key advantages cited were a modern arena, a sufficient number of hotels, transportation accessibility, and a concept for hosting large-scale events not only within the arena but throughout the city. Sofia, Varna, and Plovdiv, however, will not be left out of the contest, as they will be involved in the accompanying cultural program.
The Burgas city government expects a significant economic impact from hosting the Eurovision Song Contest. The experience of previous hosts shows that the contest can attract tens of thousands of tourists and bring cities tens of millions of euros. Specifically, in Malmö in 2024, the economic impact was estimated at approximately €40 million; in Basel in 2025, it was estimated at €58 million for the city and €272 million for Switzerland as a whole; and Vienna welcomed about 88,000 additional visitors following the 2026 contest.
The organizers are expected to announce the ticket sales start dates, as well as information about the Eurovision Village and EuroClub, in the coming months.

The Eurovision organizers have introduced new rules for the contest.
As a reminder, Greek singer Akylas, who was a finalist in “Eurovision 2026,” found himself at the center of a scandal after performing a song by the Russian band “Tatu.” The video quickly went viral on social media and sparked a wave of criticism, particularly from Ukrainian users and LELEKA, Ukraine’s representative at the contest.
Meanwhile, the Public Broadcasting Service received 642 applications from young performers wishing to participate in the national selection for the “Junior Eurovision 2026” international song contest. This year, more than six hundred people expressed interest in representing Ukraine at the prestigious music show.
