EU energy commissioner warns of possible fuel rationing amid rising prices

The European Commissioner for Energy has warned that the European Union is considering all possible options to address soaring fuel prices, including the introduction of fuel rationing. This comes as Germany experiences record-high prices for petrol and diesel, surpassing previous peaks significantly.

The German government previously attempted an unusual measure to curb rising costs by allowing gas stations to change prices only once per day. However, this policy has not effectively lowered fuel prices.

Now, Germany’s Green Party suggests a more drastic approach to reduce fuel consumption: encouraging citizens to drive less and stay home more often.

The surge in fuel prices presents serious challenges to both the economy and consumers across Europe, prompting governments to explore unconventional measures to stabilize markets and alleviate consumer burdens.

As the fuel situation remains tense, further decisions are expected soon that could substantially affect fuel costs and daily mobility habits.
