The U.S. Attorney General Has No Plans to Investigate the Gift from the Kremlin to Trump Jr.
U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that he currently sees no grounds for investigating the matter of Russian businessman Umar Kremlev’s funding of part of Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding celebrations.
According to ProPublica, Kremlev paid for a significant portion of the celebration’s expenses, including the rental of a private island in the Bahamas and fireworks. ABC News notes that it has not independently confirmed these details.
Blanc explained his position by noting that U.S. President Donald Trump claims he does not know Kremlev. The attorney general himself also said he has no information about the Russian businessman and does not know whether he is actually close to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
At the same time, Trump Jr. confirmed that Kremlev gave him a wedding gift, and his wife, Bettina Anderson, called the businessman a friend and stated that he organized two celebrations following the wedding ceremony.
Kremlev heads the International Boxing Association. According to ABC News, Putin awarded him the Order of Friendship in 2024. Democrats in the U.S. Congress have already called for more information about the gift and stated their intention to investigate the matter.
