The visit is arranged at the invitation of North Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to Mao Ning, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, China aims to deepen strategic cooperation and expand exchanges with North Korea.

South Korean media report that Wang Yi will meet with his North Korean counterpart Choe Son Hui, as well as the country’s leader Kim Jong Un. This visit precedes a planned trip by U.S. President Donald Trump to China in May.

Wang Yi, a key figure in China's foreign policy, especially regarding the Korean Peninsula, last visited Pyongyang in 2019. His return signals China's continued interest in maintaining stability and security in the region.

This visit may pave the way for enhanced diplomatic dialogue between China and North Korea and could influence regional security dynamics ahead of important international meetings.
