IBM has unveiled a revolutionary next-generation chip

The American company IBM has unveiled a new chip manufacturing technology using a 0.7-nanometer process. The company says these chips will be significantly more powerful and energy-efficient than current models. It plans to begin mass production in the coming years.

IBM calls the new technology the world’s first chip manufacturing process with a feature size of less than one nanometer. Thanks to this, a tiny wafer—no larger than a fingernail—can accommodate about 100 billion transistors.

The company notes that this is nearly twice as many as the 2-nm technology IBM introduced back in 2021. The new chips are expected to be about 1.5 times more powerful than the previous generation. In addition, they will consume less electricity—energy efficiency is expected to increase by about 1.7 times.

This result was achieved thanks to a new transistor architecture called “nanostack.” It allows components to be placed not only side by side but also on top of one another in multiple layers. This significantly increases the component density on a single chip.

IBM believes that this technology will open up opportunities for creating even more powerful processors that can be used in artificial intelligence systems, data centers, smartphones, and other modern electronic devices. “The 0.7-nm process allows for the placement of approximately 100 billion transistors on a chip the size of a fingernail,” the company noted. IBM also reported that the new process is expected to deliver “higher performance and better energy efficiency” compared to previous designs.

For now, this is merely a demonstration of the new technology. The company expects mass production of chips using the 0.7-nanometer process to begin within the next five years. This will be another important step in the development of global microelectronics and the production of next-generation processors. IBM reported this.

OpenAI fired an employee over suspicions of using confidential information to place bets on the market regarding predictions about events at the company.

Mistral AI, a French artificial intelligence startup, raised 385 million euros in a funding round. As a result, the estimated valuation of the startup, which was founded less than a year ago, has risen to approximately $2 billion.
