India has purchased and will continue to purchase oil from Russia regardless of U.S. sanctions

India has purchased and will continue to purchase oil from Russia regardless of U.S. sanctions

The Indian government will continue to purchase crude oil from the Russian Federation regardless of the official position of the United States regarding such transactions.

This statement was made by Sujata Sharma, an official spokesperson for India’s Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, according to the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.

New Delhi emphasizes that it is guided solely by its own national interests in the energy sector.

Indian leadership has made it clear that any sanctions or regulatory measures by the U.S. Department of the Treasury will not alter the country’s current strategy regarding the procurement of raw materials.

New Delhi has consistently imported Russian energy resources both before the introduction of temporary U.S. licenses and after changes in trading conditions on the international market.

“Regarding the U.S. waiver on Russian oil, I would like to emphasize that we were purchasing oil from Russia even before this waiver. We also purchased oil while the waiver was in effect and continue to do so now,” Sujata Sharma told reporters during a briefing.

According to her, India is guided solely by commercial interests when purchasing Russian oil.

The presence or absence of a U.S. waiver for such transactions does not affect the position of the Indian government, which seeks to ensure the stability of its own economy amid global instability.
