Indian supertankers forced their way through the Strait of Hormuz despite Iran's statements

Indian supertankers forced their way through the Strait of Hormuz despite Iran's statements

Three fully loaded oil supertankers linked to India successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz, despite Iran’s claims that it had allegedly closed the strategic sea route due to violations of the terms of the agreement with the United States.

The vessels “Desh Vibhor,” “Desh Vaibhav,” and “Sanmar Herald” were spotted in the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.

They were last observed late Friday as they were heading toward the Strait of Hormuz.

The three supertankers were carrying nearly 6 million barrels of oil from Iraq and Kuwait, destined for India. Each of the vessels is linked to Indian owners or is transporting cargo for the Indian market.

As a reminder, on June 20, Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important routes for the transport of oil and gas.

However, U.S. Central Command refuted these claims, emphasizing that shipping through the strait continues as usual. According to U.S. officials, 55 merchant ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz in just one day, transporting approximately 17 million barrels of oil to global markets.

In addition, several large oil tankers were observed heading toward the strait the day before. Specifically, three fully loaded supertankers entered the Strait of Hormuz from the Omani side, after which they temporarily ceased transmitting tracking signals.

The Strait of Hormuz is a key artery of the global oil market, through which a significant portion of oil exports from the Persian Gulf countries passes. Any reports of its blockage or restrictions on traffic traditionally cause concern in global energy markets.

This was reported by Bloomberg.

On June 20, Donald Trump announced the possibility of imposing a fee on commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz following an agreement with Iran.

Earlier, Trump stated that Iran would not receive any money under the new agreement.

Iran has proven to be a tough nut to crack for Washington, according to the director of the Center for the Study of Contemporary Iran.

Trump called the deal with Iran an unconditional surrender.
