Iran reports 18 killed in US strikes
Iran’s health minister said that 18 people were killed and another 108 were injured in the country as a result of US strikes on Tuesday evening. The Iranian Red Crescent Society reported four people killed and 67 injured during a wedding ceremony near the coast of the Strait of Hormuz. This was reported by Daily Maverick.
Attacks in the region
After the resumption of hostilities, Iran launched missiles and drones at targets it described as US assets in Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait and Iraq. Kuwait’s military reported new missile and drone attacks early Thursday morning, saying they were intercepted by air defense systems.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres, according to his spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, was deeply concerned by reports of civilian casualties, including information about a strike on a wedding ceremony. He called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and stressed the obligation of all parties to comply with international humanitarian law, including the principles of distinction, proportionality and precaution.

Casualty figures and the US position
According to calculations by the independent Iranian human rights organization Human Rights Activists News Agency, as of April 7, 3,636 deaths had been documented in Iran, including 1,701 civilians. The United States, for its part, reported 18 servicemembers killed and more than 750 injured.
US Central Command spokesperson Navy Captain Tim Hawkins said the US military was aware of reports originating from Iranian state media and that the United States does not strike civilians. The Iranian Red Crescent released video and photographs of a damaged building and a toppled pylon. Reuters geolocated the footage using satellite imagery: the toppled pylon was located 136 meters from the damaged building.
Investigation into the incident in Minab
The incident at the wedding recalled an explosion at a girls’ school in Minab, where 160 people were killed on the first day of the war. The Pentagon has still not released an official conclusion regarding the strike in Minab. Two informed sources told Reuters that outdated targeting information may have been the cause. Democrats in the US Congress called on the administration to provide lawmakers with the results of the investigation, but the report has not yet been sent to them.
