A Spanish race car driver died in a crash during a race
Spanish race car driver Pablo Amoros died during the GTI Trophy race at the Monteblanco Circuit in Huelva, Spain. The tragedy occurred during a race in the athlete’s home country.
According to the Spanish Royal Federation of Automobile Sports (RFEDA), the accident occurred after the race was restarted. In the first turn, Amoros’s car was traveling at a significantly higher speed, which prevented him from stopping in time and caused him to collide with another car.
After the collision, medical personnel began resuscitation efforts, but they were unable to save the driver. Experts are currently investigating the exact circumstances and causes of the accident.
Preliminary reports suggest that a mechanical failure in Amoros’s Volkswagen Golf may have been one of the possible causes of the incident.
“On behalf of the RFEDA, we express our deepest condolences over the death of driver Pablo Amoros during today’s event at the Monteblanco track. We extend our love and support to all his loved ones,” the federation said in a statement.
Amoros was a lawyer by profession, and auto racing was his hobby. The Spaniard competed in circuit racing and rallies in his home country. Despite his amateur status, his skills were highly regarded by rivals and organizers of the GTI Trophy and other competitions.
The GTI Trophy is a racing series launched in 2025 for fourth-generation Volkswagen Golf GTI cars. The competition uses used cars equipped with a special kit that boosts engine power to 220 horsepower. The cars also feature upgraded suspensions and braking systems.
