Israeli soldiers were arrested for placing bets with bookmakers on Middle Eastern events using classified information, reports The Wall Street Journal.

Unknown bettors also threatened to kill a journalist because their bet failed due to his article. They wagered $14 million that no Iranian missile would land on Israeli territory on March 10. The journalist published a piece recording a missile strike. Following this, the individuals found his contacts, threatened to hire a killer, and gave him 86 minutes to rewrite the article.

This situation highlights critical issues of security and ethics related to using military intelligence for gambling purposes and the intimidation tactics directed at journalists covering conflicts.

Israeli military and law enforcement agencies are currently investigating the incident to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Overall, the case underscores growing challenges in information security and freedom of the press amid regional tensions.
