Kazakhstan was the first country in Central Asia to launch artificial rain technology

In Kazakhstan’s Turkestan Region, the practical application of cloud-seeding technology has begun to combat drought and water shortages. Full-scale implementation of the project began on May 17. Its goal is to raise water levels in reservoirs and improve water supply for over 911,000 hectares of agricultural land in the region.

This was reported by the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture.

The project is being implemented in cooperation with the National Meteorological Center of the United Arab Emirates, which has been developing weather modification technologies since the late 1980s. According to international estimates, artificial rainfall enhancement can increase rainfall by 10–20%. The technology’s effective radius does not exceed 5 km, and special salt-based reagents are used to stimulate precipitation.

“The project will serve as the foundation for creating modern climate infrastructure in Kazakhstan and training local specialists in climate technologies,” said Zhasslan Madiev, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of Kazakhstan.

The initiative is expected to reduce drought-related losses, increase crop yields, and generate economic benefits of up to 35 billion tenge (64 million euros) per year. In the future, the government is considering expanding the technology to other regions of the country.

At the same time, international experts note that the effectiveness of artificial rain has not been fully proven and requires constant scientific oversight. The World Meteorological Organization calls for data transparency and monitoring of the potential impact on ecosystems and the region’s water balance. Some experts also warn of the risks of interstate disputes over the redistribution of precipitation. However, Kazakhstani authorities emphasize that the substances used are safe and cannot cause acid rain or chemical pollution.

Tokayevcalled Kazakhstan the successor to the Golden Horde.

Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy, Yerlan Akkenzhenov, confirmed that the transit of Kazakhstani oil to Germany via Russia has been temporarily suspended.

Kazakhstan is changing its oil supply routes following the temporary suspension of transit via the Druzhba pipeline in May.
