Kemi Badenoch criticized Trump for his childish remarks about Starmer
Kemi Badenoch, leader of the British opposition Conservative Party, reacted sharply to remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump directed at Prime Minister Keir Starmer. She called such comments “very childish” and inappropriate given the ongoing conflicts in Iran and Ukraine. She made these remarks in a conversation with journalists published on the X network.
Badenoch noted that while she herself is a critic of Starmer, Trump’s interference in the UK’s internal affairs only harms international relations.
A political signal to allies and adversaries
According to Badenoch, disputes among allies currently appear weak and demonstrate divisions at the highest level. “President Zelenskyy is visiting our country today. A Western alliance that is at odds with itself, in my opinion, sends the wrong signal to our adversaries in Iran or Russia,” she told reporters.
Badenoch emphasized that regardless of political preferences, relations between the U.S. and the U.K. must remain strong and unwavering. “I don’t think the words coming out of the White House will help us,” she added.
Childish squabbles when unity matters
The politician stressed that the key priority now is to focus on security and cooperation on international issues, rather than on personal insults or political squabbles. Trump’s comments, she said, only distract from real problems and could undermine the effectiveness of measures to support Ukraine and counter threats in the Middle East. “We must demonstrate that our relationship is strong, even if leaders hold differing views. Personal disputes—now is not the time for them,” Badenoch concluded.
