Hunan cuisine has nearly 2,000 establishments abroad — ECNS
The Taste Hunan 2026 conference, dedicated to the international promotion of Hunan cuisine, was held in Changsha, China. Nearly 1,000 guests took part in the event, which ran from Saturday to Sunday, discussing industry cooperation and strategies for expanding the global presence of cuisine from the Hunan region, ECNS reports.
Restaurants in more than 60 countries
Shi Fenggang, deputy director of the Hunan Provincial Department of Commerce, said that Hunan cuisine restaurants operate in more than 60 countries and regions. The number of such establishments outside China is approaching 2,000.
According to him, the overseas audience for this cuisine is expanding: its dishes are increasingly chosen not only by members of Chinese communities but also by local consumers.

Culinary record
On Saturday morning, the conference hosted the event “100 Global Chefs, 100 Chili Pepper Fried Pork Dishes,” which set a Guinness World Record. At the event, 120 chefs from different countries used more than 120 varieties of chili peppers to prepare 120 dishes of fried pork with chili peppers, a signature dish of Hunan cuisine.
The annual volume of Hunan cuisine exceeds 600 billion yuan, or about $89.6 billion.
