The Houthis claimed to have carried out a drone attack on the Saudi Aramco oil refinery in Saudi Arabia
The Yemeni Houthis claimed to have carried out a drone strike on a Saudi Aramco oil refinery in Jazan, in southwestern Saudi Arabia. The Guardian reported this, citing the group’s spokesman, Yahya Saria.
The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Energy reported that a fire broke out at the Jazan refinery early in the morning on August 9. The fire was subsequently extinguished, and there were no casualties. The ministry did not specify the cause of the fire, noting that the relevant authorities are investigating the incident.
According to Saria, the Houthis used a drone to carry out the attack. The Jazan refinery has a processing capacity of 400,000 barrels of oil per day. The Houthis have previously carried out attacks on Aramco facilities in Jazan, as well as on Yanbu—an oil export hub on the Red Sea coast.

Separately, a representative of the group reported missile and drone strikes on the Yemeni port city of Mocha on the Red Sea. The city is controlled by Yemen’s internationally recognized government, which is based in Aden and has the support of Saudi Arabia.
The attack occurred two days after Saudi Arabia signed a defense agreement with Turkey and Pakistan. The agreement stipulates that an armed attack on any one of the three countries will be considered an attack on all three. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that the alliance is not directed against Iran or any other state.
The day before, Iran presented the U.S. with conditions for resuming shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. These include an end to the war against Tehran and its allied armed groups, the lifting of sanctions, compensation for war damages, and the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the region. Oman, which is acting as a mediator in the negotiations, reported that discussions are proceeding in a positive and constructive atmosphere.
