Kim Jong Un pledges to deepen North Korea’s cooperation with Russia
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, in a reply letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the leader of an aggressor state, said he intends to expand and deepen joint work with Moscow. The letter was a response to Putin’s congratulations on the 78th anniversary of the founding of the DPRK, which was marked on September 9.

As The Korea Herald reports, citing the Korean Central News Agency, Kim Jong Un expressed deep gratitude to Putin. He stated that Pyongyang is firmly committed to comprehensively expanding and deepening cooperation with the Russian Federation, relying on the traditions of friendship, good-neighborliness, mutual assistance and allied relations between the two countries.
Kim Jong Un did not specify what exactly he meant by joint work. The publication notes that this may indicate a further strengthening of military and economic cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow.

Partnership treaty
According to KCNA, the North Korean leader also said that the two countries continue to develop allied relations and pledged unwavering support for Russia in its war against Ukraine.
In June 2024, North Korea and Russia signed a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty during Putin’s state visit to Pyongyang. The document provides for the provision of military assistance without delay in the event of an attack on either party. As the publication notes, Pyongyang sent thousands of military personnel and conventional weapons to Russia to support Russia’s war against Ukraine.
