China urges US to stop preparing for war in space
China has called on the United States to stop building up military capabilities and preparing for war in space. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the statement on September 15 after the US Space Force reported deploying weapons in orbit.
Beijing's statement
As Asharq Al-Awsat reports, China's foreign ministry opposed turning space into a battlefield and an arms race in outer space. Guo Jiakun said Beijing calls on the American side not to expand its military potential in space.
On September 14, the US Space Force said it had deployed weapons in orbit for the first time to control space, capable of defending against hostile actions by an adversary. The American side provided no details about these assets.

US Space Force position
In its statement, the US Space Force described China as a threat, noting that Beijing is developing and using space and counterspace capabilities as part of its military modernization strategy. It also mentioned the Russian Federation, an aggressor state, which, according to the American assessment, considers superiority in space a decisive factor in future conflicts.
The Outer Space Treaty, signed in 1967, prohibits the placement of weapons of mass destruction in orbit. At the same time, the United States, China, Russia, and India have explored other ways of conducting confrontation in space, including the capability to strike satellites used for military communications, surveillance, and navigation.
