China imposes anti-dumping measures on Japanese dichlorosilane
China has introduced preliminary anti-dumping measures on imports of dichlorosilane from Japan, a chemical substance used in semiconductor manufacturing. According to The Japan Times, companies importing Japanese dichlorosilane must make cash deposits of up to 99.2% starting Tuesday.
Rates for manufacturers
China’s Ministry of Commerce said the preliminary decision was made following an anti-dumping investigation launched in January. The ministry claims that dumping caused substantial damage to China’s industry.
The deposit rate for Denal Silane was set at 80.8%. For Shin-Etsu Chemical and other Japanese manufacturers, it will be 99.2%, the Chinese ministry said.

Dichlorosilane trade
Dichlorosilane is used to process silicon wafers in semiconductor manufacturing. Japan is the global leader in the production of ultra-high-purity dichlorosilane, while China is developing research and production of key materials and equipment for the chip supply chain.
Japan had previously been the largest supplier of dichlorosilane to China, but South Korea overtook it in 2025. According to customs statistics, China’s imports of the substance from Japan amounted to $2.6 million in July, or about 33% of China’s total dichlorosilane imports.
The decision was made amid a diplomatic dispute between Beijing and Tokyo over Taiwan. It has continued since November 2025, when Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said Japanese troops could be deployed if China attempted to seize Taiwan.
