KOSPI falls to 6,961.18 points in Seoul despite US market gains — Korea Herald
In South Korea, the stock market in Seoul opened lower: the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) had lost 10.17 points, or 0.15%, by 9:15 a.m. on Friday, falling to 6,961.18 points. At the start of the session, the index was down 0.47%, Korea Herald reports.
US market performance
US stock indexes ended the previous session with moderate gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.04%, the S&P 500 gained 0.19%, and the technology-focused Nasdaq Composite added 0.04%.
US stocks were supported by declining yields on benchmark US Treasury bonds after they reached multi-year highs. At the same time, rising oil prices limited market gains.

Company shares in Seoul
Declines in share prices prevailed among major companies on the Seoul market. Samsung Electronics shares lost 0.22%, while shares of chipmaker SK hynix rose 0.22%.
Shares of SK Square, the parent company of SK hynix, fell 0.61%. Shares of electronic components maker Samsung Electro-Mechanics declined 0.7%.
The South Korean won traded at 1,362.6 won per US dollar, 4.2 won lower than the closing level of the previous trading session.
