Cruz criticizes Webbon for urging Republicans to embrace socialism — The Hill
In the United States, Republican Senator from Texas Ted Cruz criticized Pastor Joel Webbon after he urged Republicans to embrace socialism. In a post on social media platform X, Cruz said that principled conservatives and libertarians cannot support the so-called representatives of the “woke right,” while socialists, whom he called racist, belong among Democrats.
Ted Cruz’s statement
Cruz also wrote that people who agree with socialists who, he claims, are taking control of the Democratic Party are not Republicans, America First supporters, or conservatives. His post came amid controversy surrounding Webbon’s position.

Joel Webbon’s position
An opinion column in The Hill notes that, in responses to critics on X, Webbon explained his position by saying that Democrats offer voters payments and financial support, while Republicans do not have a similarly tangible offer. According to him, the Republican Party will lose unless it offers voters something concrete, including socialist approaches.
Conservatives’ reaction
Conservative activist Laura Loomer called Webbon a closet leftist, while Corey Walker said the country would find itself in an extremely difficult position if both parties embraced socialism. Column author Robby Soave opposed Webbon’s approach and expressed the view that Republicans should focus on cutting taxes, easing regulatory pressure, and reducing the government’s role in the economy.
